That the officials made no call on the ice is an embarrassment to the league that they would suspend Schenn for a charging call when the Devils didn't even complain.
- tpanaccio

So because the Refs missed a call and because the Devils didn't complain, nothing should happen at all?

That was a bad hit. He needs to know he can't do that. It's 1 game. It's not like it's 10. He deserved it. If you're going to play like that, you have to be willing to face the consequences.

My only problem is that that call is never consistently made. A hit like that happens once a game. He definitely left his feet early.

I was surprised that there was no call made during the game on that. I wasn't surprised when I heard he had a hearing with Shanahan.

Is the timing of it bad for the Flyers? Yes. Was it deserving of a suspension? Yes.

Right which that is the embarrassment. There's no call on the play, but its a suspension under further review. It wasn't a bang bang play, I could tell Schenn left his feet early. Yes theres momentum involved, but that was a case of Schenn leaving his feet. What irks me is that one the call wasn't made during the game and two that those kind of hits are thrown all the time, it's the only way OV checks someone is when he is 4 inches off the ground just before making contact. But only now it's a suspension. It's a new season so I'm willing to be objective as of now, but there's so much inconsistency that I find it hard to believe that suddenly that will change.

My point, that hit will happen again. Probably 100 times this season. Only 10 will be suspended. If that.

That stuff happens all over the place though. How many hits in football aren't called on the field and then the players get handed huge fines for? It's a weekly occurrence. The refs can't be everywhere and see everything. You would hope it gets called, but nobody is perfect. The secondary discipline is supposed to help supplement the on ice stuff. It's never going to be a perfect system.

I would also venture a guess that part of why this hit got noticed is because that game started getting out of control in general last night. If that was the only thing that even remotely happened during that game, who knows if Shanahan even realizes it happened.

I agree this type of hit happens very frequently in the NHL and if this is Shanny's new level of enforcement league-wide, then Im OK with it. However, if not then its just another example of inconsistency that drive people nuts

Now the cynical side of me says, "If Schenn got a game for leaving his feet, then why doesnt Kronwall get suspended?" because he leaves his feet all the time! Just because he leads with his butt doesnt erase fact he jumps before big hit

So, indefinitely means it's broken I'm guessing. I hope he can be back for the playoffs.

Hoping its not a weight bearing bone, therefore shorter recovery time.

Is anyone ready to ask why foot protection - of the type worn after a return from a broken foot - is not considered as a preventative measure? Yes, the shields are bulky and cumbersome but isn't it time to perhaps address that through better design? Visors were annoying at first but players adjusted, to say nothing of helmets.

Indefinitely at this point to me means that his foot was too swollen to perform an MRI. Which is more a bad sign then a good sign, but the exact timetable is obviously indefinite. Unfair to say its just broken, it's probably shattered...

Schenn- deserved. Was lucky it wasn't more.

The stripes had a horrible game all around. It kills me when they have zero tolerance for criticism when they can't even make calls better than a weatherman calls the weather.
It was bad on both sides...

If you watch the Shanny video, the ref is looking right at it

If Hartnell is out for months, he and the Flyers will be watching the playoffs not participating. Jagr gone, JVR, gone, Fartsmell out, Flyers = screwed. Roo is good, but he can't carry the whole load. Although maybe Simmonds will get some time with Roo. Good for my fantasy team!

There must be a crack in the ice everytime he hits someone because a jump is involved. We al should be thanking Brayden.

I've never understood why Kronwall hasn't been suspended more, if ever has been.

Why would the Flyers game be blocked out in Harrisburg? Sucks
